Righteousness is a free gift that we receive as believers in Christ Jesus.
He made Christ who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf so that in Him we would become the righteousness of God [that is, we would be made acceptable to Him and placed in a right relationship with Him by his gracious loving-kindness]. (2 Corinthians 5:17 Amplified Bible)
As children of God, we inherited everything Jesus worked and died for. He took the sin of the world and paid the debt we owe through his death on the cross and his resurrection.
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8 NIV)
The bible says all who were baptized into Christ were also baptized into his death. And just as he has risen from the dead through the glory of the father (God) we too live a new life. (See Romans 6: 3-4)
A New Life
If you’ve given your heart to Jesus and accepted him as your savior and believe in your heart that he died on the cross for you and rose again you are his child and have been made righteous through him.
Jesus is God’s gift to us, he gave his son so that you can be saved. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16 NIV)
God’s righteousness is available to us, it’s a free gift at the time we receive Jesus Christ as our savior. It comes to us by grace through faith and it can’t be earned or deserved. There’s no way we can pay for it. (See 2 Corinthians 5:21)
The righteousness God gives us has already been purchased by Jesus’s suffering, death, and resurrection.
Sin Replaced with Righteousness
Because of God’s great love and mercy for us he takes our sin and gives us his righteousness. He views us as being in right standing with Him through our faith. This is an amazing exchange, he takes our sin, puts them on Jesus and gives us his righteousness.
Our sin had to be paid for, and we couldn’t do it that’s why God sent his only son to be our substitute.
Change Your Thinking
Are you willing to come into agreement with him? Are you willing to change your thinking and words and agree with the way God thinks about you?
Rather than saying I’m no good. I can’t do anything right and I’ll never be what I need to be, say what God would have you to say. “I am the righteousness of God in Christ. God sees me as righteous, and because of Jesus, I am in right relationship with him.
The more accept this truth the more you’ll find yourself able to and wanting to do the
I am the righteousness of God, I am acceptable to him. I am in right relationship with him because of his gracious loving-kindness.
Jesus gave us righteousness and holiness and he wouldn’t tell us to be so if we couldn’t do it. It was planted in us as a seed when we accepted him as our savior.
Letting God Change Us
Letting God change is can be difficult because we’re not used to it, but as we push through it we do we give birth to God’s ways and plans for us.
It’s worth it because as we keep watering the seed of righteousness and don’t give up we see his promises for us come to pass in our life.
Accepting the truth that we’re in right standing with God makes us able to survive the criticism or judgment that might come on us from others.
Right with God
Being right with God doesn’t mean you always behave the right way. It means that through the blood of Jesus. You believe that God’s not mad at you, and know he loves you.
The moment you repent of your sins and are sorry God removes them as far as the East is from the West, and he remembers them no more.
If you’re concerned that God won’t use you as you’re making an unnecessary sacrifice. God has already paid the price for sin, and he knew what he was getting when he got you.
