Does God put sickness on people to teach them something? Does he intentionally place illness on his children?
The Devils Lie
The devil has convinced people to believe that, as Christians, we can glorify God by suffering from a physical illness or infirmity and not complain about it.
Some believe that God puts sickness on people to teach them a lesson. If that’s the case, why would Christians go to the doctors for treatment and medicine to cure what they think God put on them?
Only the devil gets the glory and is satisfied when our bodies are incapacitated.
God receives glory when we have the physical strength and health he intended us to have. So we can be of service to His kingdom and bless others.
Read the New Testament from front to back. You won’t find any record of God getting praise because someone on a sickbed said they were suffering for Jesus.
Instead, he received praise when someone got healed and rejoiced over what the Lord had done for them.
The mute could speak, the lame could walk and the blind could see! (Matthew 15: 30-31)
Sickness Doesn’t Glorify God, Healing Does.
God’s way of teaching us is through His Word, not with sickness, disease, and suffering. The idea of God putting sickness on people sick to teach them something doesn’t make sense.
Saying he puts sickness on people is like saying, parents push their child over while learning to skate to teach him something. Or intentionally exposing them to illness for his good, that’s ridiculous!
Sickness and disease are the work of the devil. Healing, health, and wholeness is God’s will for His people.
Is Healing for Everyone
If you believe healing isn’t for everyone you’re mistaken. There’s no record of Jesus refusing to heal someone in the Bible.
God isn’t a respecter of persons. He doesn’t pick and choose who He feels like healing from one day to the next. He healed all who were ill (See Matthew 12:15)
Great crowds came to him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute and many others, and laid them at his feet; and he healed them (Matthew 15:30)
Why are some people not healed? Faith opens the door to healing. Sin keeps it closed.
This way of thinking has been debunked many times. Yet there are still those who refuse to believe God will heal his people for some reason.
They hold on to the idea that God puts sickness on people to teach them something. But that’s not the way God works.
Some people get downright angry about it and painfully discover they haven’t been operating in an area that is within the authority we have as God’s children.
It’s far better to make the switch and believe in God’s promises for healing than cling to a destructive way of thinking!
There is a process to receiving, but make no mistake, God wants all His people to be well. “I am the Lord who heals you.” –Exodus 15:26 (ESV)
Jesus Came to Heal and Save
God loves us so much that he sent his one and only son to die for our sins. (See John 3:16) If he did that doesn’t it make sense that he wants us to be healthy and whole as well?
Jesus is our healer and his word says that with his stripes we are healed. (Isaiah 53:5 NKJV)
Is healing alive and well in your life the way you want it to be? God promised healing for His people. And God doesn’t break a promise.
The same healing power you read about in the Bible is still around today. But where can you find that power? You’ll find it in God’s Word.
And now, you’ll find the scriptures related to healing conveniently gathered into one book…Healing Promises. This hands-on healing manual is presented in a way to give you the practical application of God’s healing Word in your life.
The scriptures are full of times when Jesus healed his people. As his children, it’s your right and privilege to be healed.
Next times you wonder, does God put sickness on people, remember that’s not his way. He is God and he wants to heal us. His promises are for you and me take hold of them.
Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for you are my praise. (Jeremiah 17:4)
