Envy, strife, and division can stunt your spiritual growth as believers. It keeps you from fully understanding what God wants you to know through his word and your teachers and pastors.
Mind-set of the Flesh
Ask your-self do you quarrel like children and take sides. Are you divided by envy and strife?
These things indicate a life centered on oneself and behaving like an unbeliever or non-spiritual person. They can affect your spiritual growth.
Division Among Believers
For example, the early Corinthian Church was divided because their mind-set was reduced to the natural state it was in before they were born again.
Satan had sent a spirit of division to them, causing the quarreling, envy, and strife that was among them. As a result, their spiritual growth was hindered.
They were immature in Christ and the apostle Paul could only give them the basic teachings of the faith.
He couldn’t get into the more advanced teachings because they weren’t ready for it.
Their lives were dominated by the mind-set of the flesh which includes jealousy, strife, and quarreling causing division between them.
Satan knows a house divided against itself will fall. He doesn’t want believers to stand strong in the promises of God. Or to see an increase in our spiritual growth.
Satan’s goal is the same now as it was in the church in Corinth. He’s assigned a spirit of division to operate in our personal lives, church lives, social and family lives.
He doesn’t want us to be united and growing in our spiritual lives. Because he knows that if we come together in the unity of our faith, we’ll arrive at the full stature of Christ Jesus.
Equipped For Works of Service
Satan doesn’t want us to fulfill God’s plans for us as individuals or as a family of believers. He doesn’t want us to spread the truth and love of the Lord.
Christ has equipped his people for works of service. So the body of Christ may be built up and reach unity the faith and the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
( See Ephesians 4: 13 NIV)
God has called believers to different works of service such as apostles, evangelists, pastors, and teachers.
They’ve been given divine gifts to contribute to the growth of all. They operate in the body of Christ, (believers) built up and made perfect in love.
Get Rid of Envy
Part of fulfilling God’s plan for your life is to get rid of envy because it stunts your spiritual growth.
For example, if someone receives a blessing while you’re waiting to be blessed you can choose not to be jealous and wonder when it will be your turn.
When that thought pops into your mind you can say, “I’m happy for them, if God can do it for them, he can do it for me too.”
Learn to pray for others to be blessed. Pray that God will do for them what you want him to do for you.
Increase Your Spiritual Growth
Remember what you sow into others through your prayers, God can make happen for you as well as a believer.
Bless others and don’t be afraid they will get ahead of you. Don’t envy their possessions, appearance, education standing, gifts or talents, or anything else.
Doing so will only hinder your blessings and your spiritual growth.
Don’t Waste Your Time
Being jealous and envying others is a waste of time. God gives all of us gifts; they don’t come anywhere but from him.
Be content with what heaven sends you because God has a unique plan for each of us. The gifts he gives are part of that plan as well as your spiritual growth.
You can trust him, He knows what he’s doing, and what he does for others isn’t our business. Our job is to walk in love.
Speak the Truth in Love and Grow
Speaking the truth in love is the opposite of envy, strife, and division. You can’t do both at the same time.
When you speak the truth in love, you grow up. When you envy and fuss it separates you from one another, then you go back to babyhood in your spiritual growth.
Don’t let Satan stop your spiritual growth by giving you a spirit of division. Instead, speak the truth in love and grow with Him in all things.
When you slander or speak against one another your judging others and the law of love. That’s not your job. That job belongs to God.
Bless others, and pray for them in the same way you want God to bless you, don’t let envy, strife, and division get in the way of your spiritual growth.
