Doubt and unbelief, are two of the most effective weapons the enemy of our soul has. That’s right when you’re having a hard time believing what you once were sure God was saying it’s you know who talking in your ear.
Satan can’t stand the fact that you’re serving God. So he makes it his business to keep you from walking in the freedom Jesus died for. Using Doubt and unbelief the devil trips you up and causes you to stumble out of the will of God.
Doubt and Unbelief? What exactly are we dealing with?
The word doubt as defined by Merriam-Webster Dictionary goes something like this: to be uncertain about (something): to believe that (something) may not be true or is unlikely: to have no confidence in something or someone.
I don’t know about you but I can see right away why this wouldn’t please God. It’s because you don’t believe in is his word and the someone you don’t trust is God himself. If you were trying to help me and I had no faith in you how would that make you feel?
Think about it. God loved you so much that he gave his one and only son to be beaten until he was almost dead and then hung on a cross to be mocked and made fun of until he died. He went to hell for three days to suffer unimaginable torture and pay for our sins.
Do, we have the right to doubt what he says? Absolutely not. That, however, is exactly what the devil wants because if he can make you doubt what the Lord says sooner or later you’ll move to the level of unbelief.
Unbelief is defined simply as a lack of religious belief. Biblically speaking it is sin. You see doubt is not sin even though it’s bad because it is simply the voice of the enemy in your head.
When you move into unbelief, you’ve made a decision to call God a liar. In effect, it’s you acting on your doubt. God hates unbelief because now you have done something which separates you from him.
Doubt and Unbelief Take Away Your Blessing
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. (John 10:10)
Jesus came to Earth and made himself flesh in order to give us life in abundance. He came so you can connect directly to God and have a relationship with him. God loves you so much and wants to bless you greatly, but when you have sin in your life that becomes impossible.
Your sin literally blocks the blessings of heaven. I’m talking about blessings in your relationships in your finances in your peace, your happiness, and even your health.
But, here is the kicker. Sin keeps you from being close to God. Our Father cannot dwell where unholiness lives. Doubt and unbelief are unholy and block God’s presence and blessings.
Doubt and Unbelief are the Devils Friends
Satan knows if he can get you into unbelief he will have stolen what Jesus paid for you to have. He will have destroyed your connection to God and Blocked the Holy Spirits work in your Heart.
He knows the Spirit’s work is to make you into the likeness of Jesus by helping you to grow in the fruit of the spirit. Holy Ghost also wants to give you the gifts of the spirit, which are the tools you can use to live a victorious life and help others to do the same.
If Satan can block that from happening he will have stopped the damage you as a child of God will do to his kingdom. He’s a mighty foe, but Jesus has already defeated him.
Putting Down a Wounded Dog
Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces. (Matthew 7:6)
God’s word is a treasure. It’s powerful and mighty to save. When you allow Satan to steal it from you using doubt and unbelief he then has the authority to bring illness, misfortune, unhappiness and even death into your life. But, Jesus hasn’t left you defenseless. You have the armor.
The Armor of God
Therefore take up the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you will be able to stand your ground, and having done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness arrayed, and with your feet fitted with the readiness of the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. (Ephesians 13-17)
The Armor Defined
- Belt of Truth- Run to truth no matter what the consequenses.
- Breastplate of Rightiousness- Have faith, because of Jesus, in your rightstanding with God
- Gospel of Peace- No matter how the enemy comes against you choose to be at peace.
- Shield of Faith- trust that God is going to take care of you.
- Helmet of Salvation- Think and fight like a Christian.
The Sword of the Spirit
In my opinion, the most powerful weapon in the fight against doubt and unbelief brought on by the powers of this world’s darkness, and the spiritual forces of evil is the word of God (Sword of the Spirit). This is especially so when combined with faith.
When Jesus was in the desert being tempted by the devil he fought him by using the word of God. When the Devil said something Jesus talked right back using scripture. This is a powerful example of how to fight Satan when he comes against you. It’s also a tremendous incentive to learn and memorize scripture.
If you are having trouble with doubt and unbelief in an area learn and memorize bible verses concerning that particular area and use it against him. When you say it and believe it the devil you’re facing will have to flee.

Have you ever felt you tried every solution on earth to solve a problem, but nothing worked? Have you ever wondered where the difficulties you face are coming from? Joyce Meyer has answers.
In Your Battles Belong to the Lord, Joyce explains that while some problems may result from a person’s choices or circumstances, others are rooted in the spiritual realm. Once you recognize the devil–who is real and active in the world today–as your true enemy and the source of many of your struggles, you can overcome them and live a life of peace, freedom, faith, and victory. When facing life’s battles, there are certain things you must do for yourself, such as:
- Diligently studying and applying God’s Word
- Trusting Him
- Maintaining a positive attitude and thankful heart
But there are other things only God can do. When you do your part, God does His-and He is always ready and eager to defend you and help you.
Each chapter of the book helps you understand how the enemy operates and learn to counter his schemes and strategies so you can live at a new level of strength. Chapter titles include: “Know Your Enemy,” “Eliminate Fear,” “How the Devil Tries to Deceive People,” “Hold Your Peace,” “The Power of a Thankful Life,” and “Internal Rest.”
In this fresh approach to the subject of spiritual warfare, Meyer focuses not only on the nature and strategies of the enemy but also on the power and love of God, who always defeats the enemy and leads you to triumph. No matter how difficult your challenges are, if you have God with you, you have all you need to win every battle.
