When you become a Christian you asked Jesus to come into you and live inside you. That’s just what happens. The Holy Spirit moves in and you become a new creation in Christ. This is why the unbeliever can’t fathom what you’re talking about when you try to share what’s happened in your life. Don’t be mistaken though from the moment they find out you’re a believer they’re watching. So let’s take a look at what happens in you.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old has gone, and the new is here! 2 Corinthians 5:17
In effect, you are born again, a new person. “ the old has gone, and the new is here!” What‘s being referred to is the spirit. There are, however, three parts that make up the human being. The Spirit, the soul, and the body. At the point of salvation, the spirit is recreated and given a connection with God through the Holy Ghost. The Soul, which is made up of the mind, will, and emotions, is a different matter. Here you contain the part of you that wants to be in control. Other names for the soul are the Id and the subconscious. I like to call it the old person or the old man.
When you become a Christian the old person will not give up easily. Your spirit is brand new, swept clean and filled with the essence of God, but your soul wants to live as it normally has. This is the part of you that’s most easily manipulated by the devil. He knows you well and knows what all your buttons are. This is also where our habitual actions are stored and drawn upon without our conscious control. Patterns of behavior mixed with memories of hurts, disappointments, and decisions made because of them are also stored here. It’s these the devil uses as a stronghold against your freedom in Christ.
15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. 16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. 17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. 18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature.[a] For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
Your soul must be conformed to the new spirit within, the one that is Christ-like this is done by the guidance of God’s Holy Spirit and the renewal of your mind by the reading of His word. ( The Bible ) Spending quality time with the Father is a must also. Prayer and worship both help draw near to the Lord. The word says that God inhabits our praises. At first, the natural man will resist this process but with perseverance and God’s help, you can be transformed into the perfect image of Jesus.
