One of the most wonderful things that can happen in our life is to give our hearts to Jesus Christ. Let’s face facts Jesus did a lot for us and deserves our complete allegiance. When He died on the cross he in effect created a bridge leading back from hell over to the Kingdom of Heaven.
When give our heart to Jesus and ask Him to come into us and save us from sin and darkness. We are choosing now to live in the kingdom of light, His kingdom. It’s funny because while It’s the most excellent thing we’ve ever done, it’s also one of the hardest. That’s because all our lives we’ve walked in the flesh and now we are moving in the realm of spirit.
So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit, what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit you are not under the law.
This is freedom, although at first, it doesn’t feel that way. Our carnal nature cries out to do what is natural to it. Think of it like this. If you’ve never exercised and suddenly begin to do so the body feels pain because of what it is not used to and frankly doesn’t understand. As we begin to use our muscles it hurts at first but it’s not too awfully long before the body grows accustomed to the new movement and as strength grows The pain decreases.
So it is with our new nature in Christ. At first, the flesh, which has been in control up to now wants to continue doing, “business as usual”. But, when you give your heart to Jesus and become a servant of God, you must now walk by the spirit instead.
If you truly are a servant of the Most High God you will want to be trained equipped and ready to serve. No matter what Kind of vocation one might choose, there is going to be some kind of equipment needed in order to do the job. In the Kingdom of God, Some tools are also needed. Some training also helps. There are things you will need and need to know. Next week we’ll be talking about that.
